The Spice and Herb Bible second edition
by Ian Hemphill with recipes by Kate Hemphill
(Robert Rose Inc. 2006)

A must-have reference and resource guide, the new Spice and Herb Bible takes the mystery out of exotic herbs and spices, and gives combination recommendations and background on more than 125 herbs and spices from around the world.  The second edition of THE SPICE AND HERB BIBLE is a fascinating, authoritative history and reference source. Hemphill has expanded the list of global herbs and spices, demystified the art of combining herbs and spices, introduced the home-cook to new worlds of tastes, and has provided great tips for the use and storage of spices and herbs.

THE SPICE AND HERB BIBLE answers many common questions about spices such as: Where do spices come from? What gives spices their flavour? What are some of the differences between spices and herbs? What is the best way to store spices and herbs? Fresh versus dried — which is better to use?

On the 9th April culinary professionals gathered in Chicago for the annual conference of the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP).  This illustrious group of chefs, cookbook authors, food specialists and journalists honoured the best among them at a gala awards ceremony on the 14th April.

Nominees included Allegra McEvedy, Heston Blumenthal, Julia Child and Kylie Kwong.

THE SPICE AND HERB BIBLE SECOND EDITION (Robert Rose Publishers; 2006; Trade paperback; ISBN: 0778801462; £15.95) won best book in the Food Reference/Technical category.

'This new edition of what has become a classic reference on herbs and spices is enhanced by the addition of more than 60 wonderfully practical recipes by Kate Hemphill, the third generation of the family to become involved in the spice business.'
